Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
FARGO, ND - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-35) lost 3-1 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (31-26) at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.
Maikol Gonzalez broke a scoreless tie with a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
RedHawks' starter Will Solomon (7-4) protected the lead with six and one-third scoreless innings to earn the win. Solomon allowed four hits, walked three, and struck out one.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the ninth, the Goldeyes brought the tying run to the plate when Tucker Nathans and Jordan Ebert opened the inning with back-to-back walks. After Grant Heyman pinch-hit for Tyler Baker and grounded into a fielder's choice, McClain Bradley drove in Nathans on another fielder's choice. It was Bradley's first career professional RBI. The rookie outfielder collected his first career hit with a single to right that led off the top of the fifth. RedHawks' reliever Geoff Broussard came back to strike out Matt McCann to end the game and record his second save of the year.
Goldeyes' starter Kevin McGovern (3-7) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits over seven innings. McGovern walked one and struck out five. McGovern now has 316 strikeouts as a member of the Goldeyes, and passed both Rick Forney (313) and Edwin Carl (315) to move into sole possession of third place on the Goldeyes' career list.
Game two of the three-game series is Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. Alex Boshers (3-5, 5.56) faces right-hander Brandon Barker (0-2, 7.11). All the action can be heard locally on 93.7 FM CJNU and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca beginning with Around the Association at 5:00 p.m.
