RedHawks Take Finale in Sacramento, 9-3

Sacramento, Calif. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks offense had it going at the plate Sunday afternoon, putting up nine runs and 10 hits as they defeated the Sacramento River Cats 9-3 in front 8,796 at Raley Field.
With the win, the RedHawks (25-17) split the four-game series in a battle of two first place teams.
For the first time in the series the RedHawks scored first. In the third inning, after the River Cats recorded an out on a rundown play, Sacramento third baseman Josh Horton committed a throwing error, allowing a run to score.
The RedHawks added three more in the fourth. Raoul Torrez hit a sac fly to center field, and Jason Jaramillo stepped up next and hit a two-run double to make it 4-0.
Sacramento (24-19) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Shane Peterson hit an RBI single, and RedHawks first baseman committed a throwing error later on the play to bring home another run. Even though the River Cats had two runners on with none out after that, RedHawks pitcher Brad Peacock kept the lead at 4-2.
The RedHawks scored three more times in the fifth. With the bases loaded and none out, Fernando Martinez shot a two-run double down the third base line. Two batters later, Austin Wates collected an RBI groundout to make it 7-2.
Sacramento loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the inning, but Peacock got Michael Choice to pop out to end the threat.
That ended up being the final pitch Peacock (1-1) threw. He allowed two runs (one earned) and three hits over five innings. Facing his former team, Peacock walked four and struck out five.
Choice brought home a run in the seventh on a fielder's choice, but the RedHawks added a couple of runs in the eighth. Che-Hsuan Lin stole third base and scored on a throwing error by River Cats catcher Ryan Ortiz. Jonathan Villar knocked an RBI single later in the inning to give the RedHawks their largest lead at 9-3.
Although the RedHawks pitching staff only gave up for hits, it set a new season high with nine walks. For the second-straight night, the RedHawks did not yield an extra-base hit.
Neither team played great defense, combining for six errors, with four coming by the River Cats.
Sacramento starting pitcher Justin Thomas had come into the game on a roll, allowing one run total over his previous two starts. He didn't have the same good fortune Sunday against the RedHawks. Thomas (2-3) went four-plus innings and surrendered a season-high seven runs, although only four were earned. The lefty allowed seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
