RedHawks slam Beavers

The Oklahoma RedHawks hit two grand slams on their way to a 15-4 victory over the Portland Beavers Thursday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Hawks hit two slams in the same game for the first time since May 15, 1998.
With the RedHawks trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Victor Diaz came to the plate with the bases loaded. Diaz sent a Steve Watkins pitch into the left field bleachers, giving the RedHawks a 4-1lead.
Diaz added a solo homer in the third inning as he finished the game 5-for-5 with two homers and six RBIs. Diaz joined Nate Gold as the only RedHawks with five hits in one game this season.
Nelson Cruz hit the second grand slam of the night in the fourth inning, giving the RedHawks a 12-1 lead. The RedHawks finished the game with 17 hits, including four home runs. Adam Fox hit his second homer as a RedHawk, a 3-run homer, in the second inning.
Eric Hurley (2-3) earned the win by allowing two runs on two hits in five innings of work. Franklyn German and Randy Williams pitched the final four innings for the Hawks.
Steve Watkins (2-3) took loss, allowing eight runs on five hit, including three home runs, in three innings of work.
Oklahoma (53-50) and Portland (42-64) play the final game of their series Friday night at 7:05 pm CDT at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
