FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks officially added two more players to the 2013 roster, signing OF/1B Keith Brachold and LHP Gabriel Garcia to contracts.
Brachold, 30, was acquired by the RedHawks in a trade with the Rockland (NY) Boulders of the Can-Am League in February. He batted .259 with 18 doubles, two triples, 29 home runs, 84 RBIs and 80 runs scored in 99 games for the Boulders last season.
Brachold led the Can-Am League in home runs, RBIs, runs scored, total bases (210) and extra-base hits (49). He also finished in the top five in the Can-Am League in games (99-2nd), intentional base on balls (3-Tie 2nd), slugging percentage (.538-4th), at bats (390-5th) and hit by pitches (9-5th). He was named to the Can-Am League All-Star Team following the season.
Brachold began his professional career in 2006 with the Brockton (MA) Rox of the Can-Am League after finishing his college career at Marist College (NY). In seven seasons, he has batted .282 with 124 doubles, 24 triples, 105 home runs, 455 RBIs and 461 runs scored in 624 games. Brachold has played with the Kalamazoo (MI) Kings of the Fontier League (2007), Amarillo Dillas of the United Baseball League (2008), Brockton (2006, 2009-11) and Rockland (2012).
Garcia, 23, joins the RedHawks as a true rookie in 2013. He played college baseball at Vanguard (CA) University and completed his eligibility last spring. As a senior, Garcia was 3-4 with a 4.64 ERA and one save in 14 games (11 starts). He pitched 75.2 innings and allowed 43 runs (39 earned) on 73 hits as a senior. Garcia struck out 60 batters and walked 25 while holding opponents to a .256 batting average against him.
Garcia transferred to Vanguard for his junior season after pitching two years at Cypress (CA) Junior College. As a junior, Garcia was 7-5 with a 2.00 ERA in 15 games (13 starts). He struck out 78 batters and walked 22 in 85.1 innings.
