Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

TONIGHT: The RedHawks will try to snap a 5-game losing streak in the second of a 4-game set at PGE Park against the Portland Beavers (San Diego Padres). Portland took the series opener 6-5 last night. The RedHawks remain 1 game ahead of Albuquerque in the American South Division, but Round Rock and New Orleans sit 3 games back of the lead. Portland is tied for third, 2.5 back of Colorado Springs and Salt Lake in the Pacific North. Doug Mathis, optioned from Texas' bullpen on May 15, will make his first Triple-A appearance of 2010. This marks the fourth straight season Mathis has made an appearance for the RedHawks. Righthander Will Inman gets the start for the Beavers.

MORE NEW TERRITORY: The RedHawks are on a season-high 5-game losing streak. They are 2 games above .500 for the first time since April 15, when a win improved their record to 5-3. After having the PCL's second-best record in April (15-7) and the second-best team batting average (.290) and ERA (2.97), the RedHawks have dipped to the PCL's worst record in May (6-12) with the third-lowest team batting mark (.240) this month. The RedHawks are tied with Tacoma and Reno for the fewest home runs in May with 9. OKC belted 24 homers in April.

ERA BEST IN LEAGUE: OKC leads the PCL in team ERA at 3.32. The RedHawks have allowed the fifth-fewest hits and runs. OKC shares the league lead with 4 other teams in shutouts, 4.

SHUTDOWN INNINGS: OKC's bullpen has gone 5 games and 16.2 innings without allowing a run. The last run against a RedHawks reliever came in the ninth inning of Friday's game against Sacramento.

KEEPING IT IN THE PARK: OKC pitching has allowed the fewest home runs in the league (21). The RedHawks have gone 6 full games, plus part of a seventh, without surrendering a homer. Sacramento's Chris Carter had the last opposition home run (off Michael Ballard) in the sixth inning of a game May 13. OKC has pitched 57 consecutive homerless innings.

DEAD BALL ERA: The RedHawks have gone 8 full games, plus part of a ninth, without hitting a home run. Their last homers came in the sixth inning on May 11 against Sacramento, when Gregorio Petit and Chris Davis homered in a 3-batter span against Mickey Storey. Despite bringing a 73-inning homerless drought into tonight, the RedHawks remain third in the league with 33 homers. OKC is 14-7 when homering in a game and 7-12 when held homerless.

BETTER LATE: The RedHawks have scored more runs against opposing teams' bullpens than starting staffs this season. Of OKC's 204 runs, 104 have been against relievers, with 100 charged to starters. OKC has collected 160 hits in 127.2 innings against the league's collective relief corps, while amassing 202 hits in 225.2 innings vs. starters. The RedHawks have failed to score against an opponents' bullpen 10 times in 40 games, going 1-9 in those contests.

FIVE NOT ALIVE: OKC has allowed exactly 5 runs in a game 5 times, including last night's 6-5 final, and is 0-5 in those contests. Last night's loss dropped OKC to 5-6 in one-run games.

PACK WISELY: OKC's current 12-game road trip is the first 3-city trip for the team since 2006, when it had a pair of them. The RedHawks' went 8-3 in a rain-shortened, 11-game jaunt through Omaha, Memphis and Nashville from June 8-16, 2006 in their last marathon road swing. They also split a 12-game trek to Salt Lake, Colorado Springs and New Orleans in May of 2006.

ODDS AND ENDS: Esteban German is tops in the league with 35 runs scored, 4 more than Colorado Springs' Matt Miller...German is third in the league with 14 stolen bases...Hernan Iribarren leads the PCL with 5 sacrifice flies...Ryan Garko, who opened the season with Texas, cleared waivers on Tuesday, was outrighted to the RedHawks and played first base last night, going 0-for-4 in his first minor league game since Aug. 8, 2006 with the Buffalo Bisons.
