TODAY'S OPPONENT:

The Portland Beavers are the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Last season, the Beavers finished third in the Pacific North with a record of 68-76.

VS. PORTLAND:

The teams split a 4-game series last season in Portland. The Beavers won the first two games and the Hawks won the final two games. The RedHawks hit .313 with three homers in four games and the pitching staff had a 4.76 ERA. The all-time series is tied 17-17.

TODAY'S GAME:

This is game 104 of the season, the last of 4 meetings between Oklahoma and Portland this season. The RedHawks begin a 4-game series with Tacoma Saturday at The Brick.

ROSTER MOVES: Ian Kinsler

joins the RedHawks on a major league rehab assignment. Kinsler is rehabbing an injured left foot. Nelson Cruz was recalled by Texas.

LAST GAME:

The RedHawks won for the eight time in their last nine games, winning 15-4 against Portland. With the Beavers leading 1-0, Victor Diaz hit a grand slam to give the RedHawks a 4-1 lead after one inning. Adam Fox added a 3-run homer in the second inning, making the score 7-1. After another Diaz homer in the third, Nelson Cruz hit the second grand slam of the night in the fourth inning, putting the RedHawks ahead 12-1. The RedHawks ended the game with 17 hits. Starter Eric Hurley picked up his second win of the season, allowing two runs on two hits in five innings of work.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mike Wood

will go to the mound for the 14th time this season. He picked up his eighth win of the season in his last start Sunday at Round Rock, allowing only one run on four hits in eight innings. For his career, Wood is 0-1 with a 0.94 ERA in four starts with Sacramento (3) and Omaha (1) against the Beavers. Mike Thompson will pitch for the Beavers. Thompson hasn't faced the RedHawks in his career.

POWER SURGE:

The RedHawks tied a season-high with four homers last night. The RedHawks hit two grand slams in a game for the first time since May 15, 1998. The Hawks have nine home runs in this series, which is the second most they have hit in a series all season. They hit 10 June 30-July 3 at Omaha.

DIAZ DIALED IN:

After going 5-for-5 with two homers and six RBIs last night, Diaz is hitting .368 (14-38) with three homers and 16 RBIs over the last nine games. The five hits tied Nate Gold for most in a game this season.

TUG KEEPS GOING: Tug Hulett

brings a current team-high 14-game hitting streak into tonight after going 3-for-6 with two runs scored last night. He's hitting .351 through 22 games in July after hitting just .190 in 28 games during June. Hulett has at least one hit in 24 of his last 26 games.

STARTING THINGS OFF:

With Hurley's win last night, Hawk starters are 6-2 with a 2.69 ERA with eight quality starts in their last 14 games. The starters have made it through the sixth inning in 11 of the last 14 games.

LEAGUE LEADERS:

Wood leads the PCL with a 2.95 ERA. Freddy Guzman leads the league with 35 stolen bases. Jason Botts leads the PCL with a .438 on-base percentage, he's second with 35 doubles, third with 52 extra-base hits and eighth with a .321 batting average.

COOLBAUGH MEMORIAL FUND:

The Oklahoma RedHawks and RedHawk wives will be hosting a raffle to raise money for the Memorial Fund for Mike Coolbaugh's family. The raffle will run Friday through Sunday with the prizes being awarded on Monday. Winners will be posted on website by ticket number listing. Featured items will include Redhawks team memorabilia, major league items including a prized autographed Sammy Sosa bat, and more. Winners of the items don't need to present to claim prize. In addition, the Redhawks will be accepting donations for the Memorial Fund throughout the ballpark.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

The RedHawks are 9-7 on Friday this season, and 12-10 in July...they're 10-14 in finales...the RedHawks have outscored their opponents 55-12 in their last eight wins, with at least 10 hits in each win...the RedHawk pitching staff has lowered its ERA to 4.80, that's as low as it has been giong into a game since it was 4.51 May 14.
