TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The Memphis Redbirds are the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1998. Last season, the Redbirds finished third in the American North with a record of 58-86.
VS. MEMPHIS:
The Redbirds lead the series 5-4. Memphis took three of four to start the season at AutoZone Park April 5-8. The RedHawks took three of four April 13-16 at The Brick. David Matranga is hitting .304 with a two homers and three RBIs is seven games against the Redbirds this season. Last season, the RedHawks won the season series 11-5.
TODAY'S GAME:
This is game 95 of the season, the second of this series and the 10th of 16 meetings between Oklahoma and Round Rock this season.
LAST GAME:
The RedHawks lost for the eighth time in their last nine games, losing 6-3 last night at Memphis. The Hawks took a 1-0 lead on David Matranga's solo homer in the fifth. Joe Mather's 2-run homer in the sixth off starter Mike Wood gave the Redbirds a 2-1 lead after six innings. The RedHawks wasted no time tying the game up at two on Nelson Cruz's solo shot to lead off the seventh inning. The Hawks' lead didn't last long as Memphis scored four runs (three unearned) on three hits, two errors and a 2-run homer from Jarrett Hoffpauir off Franklyn German in the bottom of the seventh, making the score 6-2. The RedHawks got one run back in the top of the eighth on an RBI single from Nate Gold to make the final score 6-3. Wood didn't figure into the decision, allowing two runs on seven hits in six inning.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Steve Rowe
makes his second spot start of the season for the RedHawks. Rowe is 4-3 with a 7.24 ERA in 23 games, including one start. Rowe lost his first spot start of the season May 22 at Omaha, allowing five runs on six hits, including two home runs, in 3.2 innings. Rowe has the two longest relief outings for the RedHawks this season, pitching four innings against New Orleans April 29 at the Brick and July 3 at Omaha. Rowe hasn't allowed a run in 12 of 23 appearances, and he has pitched more than one inning in 14 games. Rowe is 3-1 with a 4.94 ERA in 13 games at home but 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA in 10 games on the road. Rowe hasn't faced the Redbirds this season after starting the year with Double-A Frisco. Randy Keisler gets the ball for the Redbirds. Keisler started the first game of the season April 5 against the RedHawks at AutoZone Park. He didn't figure into the decision, allowing one run on five hits, including a Victor Diaz solo homer in the first, in five innings. The RedHawks eventually won the game 5-4.
LEAGUE LEADERS: Jason Botts
leads the PCL with a .437 on-base percentage, he's second with 34 doubles and 51 extra-base hits, fifth with 74 RBIs and ninth with a .322 avg. Freddy Guzman leads the league with 34 stolen bases. Wood is second with a 3.14 ERA.
STEALING BASES:
With two more steals last night, Guzman is the all-time RedHawks leader with 65 stolen bases. He has 34 steals on the season. Guzman is in his second season with the RedHawks after being traded in May of last season.
STAFF STRUGGLES:
In losing eight of nine, RedHawk pitchers have a combined 5.55 ERA. They have allowed five or more runs in eight of the last nine games.
FEELING STRANDED:
The RedHawks have left 86 men on the bases in losing eight of their last nine games. The Hawks left five runners on last night. The RedHawks are hitting just .171 (13-76) with runners in scoring position over the last nine games after going 1-for-7 last night.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks are 5-7 on Tuesday this season...they are 4-9 in July since going 18-10 in June...The Hawks are 14-18 against lefties this season...Gold brings a 7-game hitting streak into tonight...Botts failed to get a hit for only the second time in the last 26 games last night...
