RedHawks drop series finale to I-Cubs, 12-5

The Oklahoma RedHawks dropped a 12-5 final in the last contest of a three-game set against the Iowa Cubs Sunday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The I-Cubs plated five runs in the third, sixth in seventh, and one in the eighth, amassing 16 hits in the victory.

Oklahoma took an early lead in the second when John Mayberry scored on single by Travis Metcalf, who subsequently scored with Ryan Roberts on a triple by Drew Meyer. The Cubs would answer quickly in the third. After a pair of ground outs to start the inning, Micah Hoffpauir hit a solo home run of RedHawks starter Steve Rowe. A single and a walk later, Jason Dubois hit a three-run blast to straightaway centerfield. Koyie Hill followed with a solo home run to cap the scoring in the inning. Iowa added six runs in the seventh inning on five hits, a walk, and a hit batter. The I-Cubs sent ten to the plate in the inning, and eight more in the eighth, adding a run to their tally and built the lead to nine runs. Roberts would add two more runs to the RedHawks total with a double in the home half of the eighth, but Oklahoma could not manage another run after that.

Iowa starter Kevin Hart (2-1) pitched five inning to earn the win, retiring the final nine batters he faced. Rowe (3-4) took the loss in his ninth start of the year. Dubois paced Iowa with three hits and three runs batted in, while Casey McGehee and Hoffpauir added three hits each. Roberts, Metcalf, and Meyer had two hits each for Oklahoma, which dropped two of three during the series with Iowa.

The RedHawks continue this seven-game homestand at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark Monday night against the Albuquerque Isotopes. The games on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at slated for 7:05 pm starts with an 11:05 first pitch on Wednesday.
