Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

HIGHLIGHTS: The Oklahoma City RedHawks beat the Round Rock Express 5-2 on Monday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Luis Mendoza pitched seven plus innings, allowing eight hits while striking out seven as the RedHawks snapped a four game losing streak.

Brandon Boggs put Oklahoma City on the board with a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Boggs hit the first pitch he saw from Round Rock starter Jose Capellan over the visitor's bullpen in right field to stake the RedHawks to the early lead. It was Boggs fifth home run of the season and third in his last seven games.

The Express took a 2-1 in the fourth. Brian Bogusevic and Mark Saccomanno singled to start the inning, and each scored on base hits by Jason Smith and Edwin Maysonet respectively.

Oklahoma City immediately answered with a run in the home half of the fourth when Greg Golson scored on a Julio Borbon sacrifice fly.

The RedHawks took the lead for good in the sixth. T.J. Burton came on in relief of Capellan to begin the inning and retired Golson on a ground out to begin the frame. Casey Benjamin walked on four pitches and proceeded to steal second. With two outs in the inning, Borbon reached on an infield single, and Maysonet's attempt to throw Borbon out at first skipped past Saccomanno, allowing Benjamin to score the go ahead run and put Oklahoma City up 3-2.

Justin Smoak's third Triple-A home run drove in two in the eighth to cap the scoring at 5-2.

Mendoza (5-4) pitched into the eighth and retired nine of the last ten batters he faced before giving way to the bullpen. Brian Gordon finished off the eighth, stranding to Express runners on base. Warner Madrigal, optioned by Texas on Sunday, allowed a pair of hits but struck out Tommy Manzella to earn his 13th save. Capellan left with a no-decision after five innings with a 2-2 score, and Burton (0-1) took the loss after surrendering the final three runs over three innings.

Four different RedHawks had two-hit games, while Smoak had two runs batted in. Borbon had one hit to extend his current hitting streak to 11 straight. Yordany Ramirez had three hits to pace the Express, while Bogusevic and Saccomanno had a pair of hits apiece.

Oklahoma City had lost four straight games dating back to a win over Albuquerque on July 29.

The RedHawks and Express meet for the final time this year on Tuesday evening at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City has won eight of 15 against Round Rock so far this season.
