RedHawks Barrage Supports Nieve in Win

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Fernando Nieve struck out eight and put down his last 13 hitters in a row, while Koby Clemens knocked in three runs leading the Oklahoma City RedHawks (4-5) to a 7-4 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes (5-4) in front of 9,294 Friday night at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.

Nieve (1-1) allowed three first inning runs, and back-to-back singles to lead off the second inning before his string of 13 consecutive outs in the winning decision. Reliever Sergio Escalona put down the next five in order to extend the string of outs to 18 before a Jamie Hoffman hit-by-pitch ended the run. Ross Wolf (1) saved the game, dealing a hitless ninth.

Albuquerque starter John Ely allowed seven runs, five earned, and eleven hits over six innings in the losing decision.

The Isotopes scored three in the top of the first against Nieve. Jerry Sands drove in Dee Gordon on a single, Russ Mitchell plated Jamie Hoffman with a fielder's choice and Joe Becker singled home Sands for a 3-0 score.

Oklahoma City rebounded immediately in the bottom of the frame. J.B. Shuck walked before Tommy Manzella tripled in a run for a 3-1 score. Later with one out, Koby Clemens belted a two-run home run to right-centerfield, tying the score 3-3.

The RedHawks took the lead for good in the fifth inning, adding two runs. Brian Bogusevic tripled in Shuck for a 4-3 lead before Clemens doubled in Bogusevic for a 5-3 score.

Oklahoma City added two more in the sixth inning when a Dee Gordon error allowed Drew Locke to score from third base and Bogusevic singled in a run for a 7-3 lead.

Albuquerque first baseman Jerry Sands belted a solo home run in the eighth inning, ending the scoring at 7-4.
