Ottawa RedBlacks News Release

OTTAWA-GATINEAU - The Ottawa REDBLACKS, RNation, Purolator employees and local food bank volunteers teamed up for the Purolator Tackle Hunger © program at a sold out TD Place Friday night to raise the equivalent of 43,754 pounds of food for the Ottawa Food Bank.

"This is a shining example of our community coming together to support a program that is vital to our city," said Bernie Ashe, CEO of the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group. "We're so proud of our fans and our players for being incredible ambassadors and helping drive support and awareness towards the Ottawa Food Bank."

Now in its 14th season, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program raises awareness, food and funds for local food banks across Canada. At one game in every Canadian Football League city, Purolator organizes a Game Day Food Drive and encourages fans to drop off non-perishable food items or a cash donation in support of food banks in their communities.

Last year, Purolator Tackle Hunger raised the equivalent of 1.4 million pounds of food. This year, the program has set a goal to help raise more than 1.45 million pounds of food for Canadian food banks.

Ottawa Fury FC players and fans will look to add to this total Saturday night when Fury FC host Minnesota United FC at TD Place at 7:00 p.m. Then on Sunday, 67's players and fans will cap of Purolator Tackle Hunger © with their home opener at 2:00 p.m. against the Barrie Colts.
