Memphis Redbirds News Release

EL PASO, Texas - A five-run third inning helped send the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A Padres) past the Memphis Redbirds Tuesday night in El Paso, 9-2, and handed the Redbirds their sixth-straight defeat.

Efren Navarro, Matt Williams and Charlie Tilson had two hits apiece for the Redbirds (45-50), with Williams driving in Memphis' first run in the seventh inning with a double that scored Dean Anna. Anna walked and went to second on a wild pitch before scoring on Williams' two-bagger.

Tilson finished 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI single in the ninth that plated Anna.

El Paso's (56-40) Taylor Lindsey hit for the cycle in the game, which was the second time in six games a Redbirds opponent hit for the cycle. Prior to the last six games, nobody had hit for the cycle against the Redbirds in 2,666 games in franchise history dating back to 1998.

Corey Baker gave up eight runs on 12 hits in 5.1 innings of work. Kurt Heyer allowed a run on three knocks in 1.2 innings of relief, and he fanned three in the process. Thomas Lee pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his second game back from missing 60 games due to injury.

Anthony Garcia was 1-for-2 after entering as part of a double switch in the sixth. He returned to Memphis earlier in the day from Double-A Springfield.

Memphis left nine runners on base and struck out 10 times.

The Redbirds and the Chihuahuas will play two more games before Memphis returns to AutoZone Park for eight games against Iowa and Oklahoma City starting Friday. The upcoming homestand features a Redbirds Stephen Piscotty bobblehead gate giveaway and postgame fireworks on Saturday; a kids lunchbox giveaway on Sunday; and Hunting and Fishing Night that includes a camouflage Redbirds hat with a Theme Ticket purchase, as well as a Replica Cardinals 1926 World Series Ring gate giveaway, on Friday the 29th.
