Memphis Redbirds News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - Chris Ellis pitched a Redbird season-high 6.2 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out eight, but he was one-upped by a masterful performance by former St. Louis Cardinal Justin Masterson in a 3-0 win by the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Dodgers) Monday night in Oklahoma City.
Ellis gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits over the 6.2 innings, and his eight punch-outs also matched a Redbird (10-9) season high. He was bested by Oklahoma City's (9-9) Masterson, who gave up just one hit in 7.0 shutout innings and struck out five.
Chad Huffman doubled with one out in the first inning, and Masterson retired 17 of the next 18 he faced, sandwiched around Luke Voit reaching on an error in the fourth, before a walk to Tommy Pham in the seventh ahead of three-straight outs to end his night.
Pham singled with two outs in the ninth for the second and final Redbird hit of the night.
Ellis retired the first eight Dodgers he faced, before allowing a single to Masterson. The Dodgers touched him for two runs on three hits in the fifth and another in the sixth, before he was relieved by Ryan Sherriff. Sherriff threw 1.1 scoreless innings to finish the night.
Pham stole his fourth base of the season during the contest.
The Redbirds and Dodgers conclude their four-game series tomorrow morning at 11:05 a.m., which precedes the season's first scheduled off-day on Wednesday.
