May 28, 2013 - International League (IL) - Rochester Red Wings
TODAY¬ĀfS GAME: The Red Wings seek a second straight victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies) on Tuesday night (7:05 p.m.) after RHP Vance Worley led them to a 5-0 game one win with a complete-game shutout in his first start as a Red Wing... The Wings have won 3 of the first 5 games on their 8-game homestand but still sit in 6th place in the IL North -- 10.0 GB of Pawtucket... Meanwhile the IronPigs, who had their 6-game win streak snapped on Monday are in 3rd place in the IL North -- 6.5 GB of the Paw Sox... After this series, the Wings will head south to open an 8-game road trip with a 4-game set against the Charlotte Knights (White Sox) on Friday night.
WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:
¬Ā¬®Will win back-to-back games for the first time since 5/16-17 and for just the 3rd time since a season-high 4-G win streak 4/24-27
¬Ā¬®Will win the first two games of a series for the first time all season
WINGIN¬Āf COMPLETE-GAME SHUTOUTS: RHP Vance Worley tossed the 4th complete-game shutout by a Red Wings starter this season in the first 51 games of the year (Gibson, 2; Walters, 1; Worley, 1)... The St. Louis Cardinals are the only other team in all of baseball with 4 CG-SHO¬Āfs this season... Rochester is the only team in the International League with a CG-SHO. In fact, there have only been 17 total CG-SHO¬Āfs this season in all of minor league baseball and four (24%) have now come from Red Wings starters. No other team has more than two CG-SHO¬Āfs... The Twins double-A affiliate in New Britain is the only team in the Eastern League to record a CG-SHO as RHP Trevor May as tossed two in his first 10 GS of the season meaning Twins¬Āf farmhands have accounted for 35% (6 of 17) of all CG-SHO¬Āfs in the minors this season.
¬Ā¬®Rochester is on pace to toss 11 CG-SHO this season the most since the 1980 season when they also had 11.
¬Ā¬®The last time the Red Wings had more than 4 CG-SHO¬Āfs in one season was 2007 when they had six
¬Ā¬®Prior to this season, the Wings had thrown just 7 CG-SHO¬Āfs in the last 5 years (2008-12) w/ no more than 2 in any year.
ROHLFING JOINS THE WINGS: Catcher Dan Rohlfing has been transferred to Rochester from Double-A New Britain on Tuesday. Rohlfing, making his first trip to the Triple-A level, hit .274 with 0 HR and 19 RBI in 39 games with New Britain this season. A 14th round selection by the Twins in 2007, Rohlfing entered the 2013 season with a .242 career average with 6 home runs and 103 RBI in 314 games over six seasons. Last year, the St. Louis, MO native hit .235 with one homer and 27 RBI in 91 games between Ft Myers (A) and New Britain (AA).
¬Ā¬®Over his last 6 games at New Britain, Rohlfing hit .353 (6-for-17) with 2 doubles, 4 runs scored and 6 RBI
AWESOME ALBERS!: The Wings hand the ball to LHP Andrew Albers on Tuesday who will be seeking his 6th consecutive quality start. Over his last 5 GS, Albers is 2-2 with a 1.47 ERA (5 ER/30.2 IP)... In his first 4 GS of the year, the Triple-A rookie went 0-0, 4.58 ERA (9 ER/17.2 IP)... In his last start, Charlotte¬Āfs Lars Andersons¬Āf RBI single in the 4th inning snapped a 23.2-inning streak without allowing an earned run for the southpaw... His 2.61 ERA currently ranks 4th best in the International League... Oddly, Albers has allowed LHH¬Āfs to hit .370 (20-54) off him while RHH¬Āfs are batting just .231 (31-134).
¬Ā¬®A win tonight would be the first time in his career he has won three straight starts.
IN THE FRYER: Wings catcher Eric Fryer has scored a run in his last 6 starts (7 runs) -- setting a Red Wings season high. He had scored just 3 times over his first 16 games of the year. It is the most consecutive games with a run scored by a Wings player since Aaron Bates crossed home in 7 straight from 8/30/11 to 4/5/12... Over the 6-game stretch, the Wings backstop is hitting .294 (5-for-17) with 2 HR, a triple and 7 RBI... Fryer has also drawn 8 walks over that span to raise his OBP to .329 on the year.
¬Ā¬®Fryer¬Āfs triple on Monday was his 16th triple of his career and first since June 18, 2011.
WARMING WITH RISP: The Red Wings went 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position on Monday and are now hitting .311 (38-for-122) in those spots over the last 12 games raising their average on the year to .224 with RISP -- still just 13th out of 14 teams in the IL. On May 14, the Wings were hitting just .194 in those situations.
¬Ā¬®Doug Bernier leads the team with 16 hits w/ RISP (16-for-50; .320) and is 2nd on the team with 17 RBI with RISP (Colabello, 22)

¬Ā¬®Brian Dinkelman went 1-for-2 with a run and walk on Monday and is now 6-for-13 on the homestand after going just 7-for-48 (.146) in his first 17 games at Frontier Field this season.
