June 13, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

TONIGHTfS GAME: After just the 3rd scheduled off day of the season, the Red Wings resume their homestand Thursday night with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Gwinnett Braves at Frontier Field. The Wings have dropped two straight and 3 of 4 on the homestand but are still 10-6 overall in their last 16 games. Rochester currently sits 8.0 GB of Pawtucket in the IL North and Norfolk in the Wild Card... The Braves come to town having lost 7 of their last 11 games -- including losing 3 of 4 to the Wings last week in Gwinnett. The Braves, Atlantafs top affiliate, suffered a 14-game losing streak from 4/27-5/11 but are 16-14 in the 30 games since.

WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:

¨Will avoid losing a 3rd straight game for the first time in nearly a month (May 13-15)

¨Will avoid tying a season-high 3-game home losing streak (3x; last May 13-15)

AWESOME ANDY!: LHP Andrew Albers will be hoping to duplicate his last outing against Gwinnett as tossed his first career complete-game shutout on Friday vs the Braves and the 5th complete-game shutout turned in by a Red Wings pitcher this season. Albers has posted a 3.41 ERA (8ER/31.2IP) over his current and career-long 4-game win streak... Over his last 7 GS, Albers is 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA (8ER/44.0IP) including four starts without allowing an earned run...Staked to a 7-0 lead before he ever toed the rubber on Friday, Albers pounded the strike zone early and often striking out a tied for career-high 7 while walking none over his 101-pitch, 74-strike performance. He allowed just 6 hits (all singles) and didnft allow a runner to reach second base until two-out in the 8th inning. No Braves base runner reached third base all night. The southpaw retired 17 of the last 19 batters he faced, including 13 in a row at one point.

¨A win tonight would give Albers the first 5-game win streak of the season for a Red Wings pitcher.

VS THE G-BRAVES: The Wings and G-Braves hooked up last week in Gwinnett as the Red Wings won the series three games to one. It was the first time since 1995 that the Red Wings won a road series against Atlantafs Triple-A affiliate. Prior to this season, the Wings had not fared well against Gwinnett going just 13-19 vs the Braves since they moved from Richmond to Gwinnett in 2009. Last season it was the Braves who took the season series, 3-5, from the Red Wings. The Wings just need to split this four-game set to earn their first season series win over the Braves top affiliate since the 2006 season (6-2).

¨The Wings will face the rehabbing Brandon Beachy on Thursday... Beachy, recovering from Tommy John surgery, is making his 3rd start for Gwinnett and 5th start in the minors this season... He is 12-10, 3.07 ERA in 41 career GS with the Braves.

¨The trio of Doug Bernier, Jeff Clement & Deibinson Romero hit a combined .400 (16-40) w/ 6 XBH (3 HR) & 8 RBI vs GWN in f13

EPPLEY SIGNED, SLAMA RELEASED: Longtime Red Wings reliever Anthony Slama was released by the Twins on Thursday after going 0-4 with a 13.50 ERA (20 ER/13.1 IP) in 14 games with the Red Wings this season. The 29-year-old entered this season with a career 1.99 minor league ERA including a 2.27 ERA with 36 saves in 123 appearances with the Wings... The Twins signed free-agent, right-handed reliever Cody Eppley, who was 2-2 with an 8.53 ERA in 19 games with the Scranton/WB RailRiders this year, and assigned him to Rochester. Eppley, 27, also appeared in two games with the Yankees this season after spending most of 2012 in the Yanks bullpen (1-2, 3.33 ERA in 59 games). The 43rd round pick of the Rangers in 2008 appeared in all four of New Yorkfs ALCS games last season vs DET tossing 3.2 scoreless innings. He was released by the Yankees on June 5.

PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF: 1B/OF Chris Colabello continues his assault on Triple-A pitching this season going 5-for-9 with a double and two RBI in his first two games back at Frontier Field to raise his average to a league leading .362... Monday was Colabellofs first game at Frontier Field since May 17. Since the home fans last saw the current top IL All-Star vote-getter, Colabello has made three trips to the Big Leagues. His last stint was his shortest as he served as the Twins 26th man for their doubleheader on Sunday in Washington. Due to the back-and-forth, prior to Monday, Colabello had just 29 at-bats over a 19-day span (May 22-June 9) after starting the first 46 games of the season for the Red Wings.

PLOUFFE, THERE IT IS!: The rehabbing Trevor Plouffe went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and 3 RBI on Tuesday afternoon in his second game with the Red Wings as he rehabs from a concussion and calf strain that have sidelined him since May 21... The homer was Plouffefs 47th career home run as a Red Wing -- 2nd most all-time in the Twins era behind Garrett Jonesf 81 career home runs.

MORE ABOUT TUESDAY..:

¨The Wings lost their 9th game this season when leading after 5 inn. (25-9)... The 9 losses are tied for most in the IL w/ COL (17-9)

¨The Wings went 1-for-9 with RISP and for the 4-game series were just 4-for-28 (.143) in those spots and left 34 runners on.
