Rochester Red Wings News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - The Rochester Red Wings are set to honor the 1997 Governors' Cup Champions at Frontier Field on Saturday, July 30.
Players that will be in attendance Saturday include P.J. Forbes, Brian Shouse, Brian Sackinsky, Rick Krivda, Jim Wawruck and Scott Bullett. The manager for that club, Marv Foley, will also be in town.
The first 5,000 fans will receive a reprint from the Democrat and Chronicle the day after the Red Wings clinched the 10th Governors' Cup in team history. The first 2,000 fans will also receive a Governors' Cup Championship logo cap. The members from the 1997 squad will sign autographs on the concourse from 6-6:45 p.m., throw first pitches and participate in a postgame interview on the field after the game ends.
Postgame fireworks will be 1997-themed and the 1997 season in review video will be shown immediately following the fireworks display. Some of the in-game promotions will also harken back to the first season at Frontier Field.
The 2016 Red Wings will be wearing the black jerseys made famous by the 1997 team. These game worn, autographed jerseys will be auctioned off during the game to benefit the Red Wings Community Foundation.
The food special that night will be Governors' Cup Goulash, a fine blend of hamburger, pasta, tomato and a secret mix of the Governor's spices. This special can be purchased at the Black Angus concession stand for $5.
The Rochester Red Wings open a crucial three-game set with the wild card-leading Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Friday night. Friday and Saturday have first pitches set for 7:05 p.m. with Sunday's matinee scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
