Red Wings Outfielder Wilkin Ramirez Re-Signs with Minnesota Twins for 2013

ROCHESTER, NY - Red Wings outfielder Wilkin Ramirez has signed a minor-league contract with the Minnesota Twins for the 2013 season. The deal includes an invitation to major league spring training.

Ramirez, who celebrates his 27th birthday today, spent the majority of the 2012 season with the Red Wings, batting .276 with 15 homers and a team-leading 54 RBI in 98 games. He hit .350 (41-for-117) with five homers and 26 RBI in his final 30 games beginning August 1, ranking second in the International League in RBI in that time. The Dominican Republic native earned IL Batter of the Week honors for the final week of the regular season, when he hit .367 (11-for-30) with four doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, and eight runs scored in seven games.

Ramirez hit the Red Wings' lone walk-off home run of 2012 at Frontier Field, belting a two-run homer in the ninth against Durham (Rays) to win 7-6 on June 20. He also had a 10th-inning walk-off RBI single August 16 vs. Indianapolis (Pirates) for a 2-1 victory.

Ramirez has 35 major league games to his credit during his nine-year pro career, appearing in 15 contests with Detroit in 2009 and 20 with Atlanta in 2011. He is currently playing for Toros del Este of the Dominican Winter League.
