Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Red Wings dropped game one of a four-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens, 1-0, Monday night at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, OH. Rochester was unable to push across a run against the stingy Mud Hens pitching staff which entered play Monday with the 3rd best team ERA (3.22) in the league.
After alternating wins and losses in their past seven games, the Red Wings have now lost two straight contests for the first time since back-to-back losses to Pawtucket and at Syracuse on April 22 and 23.
Rochester (12-19) threatened early but was unable to capitalize as Brian Dinkelman was gunned down at home by outfielder Nick Castellanos on a base hit from Doug Bernier in the second inning . Chris Colabello continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3 with two singles. Colabello was the only Red Wing with multiple base knocks as he extended his hit streak to eight games over which he is hitting .438 (14-for-32).
Toledo (9-23) snapped a 9-game losing streak to the Red Wings dating back to 2011. Toledo managed just six hits but four of them came from shortstop Argenis Diaz. Diaz went 4-for-4 and drove in the only run of the game in the bottom of the 8th inning on a single that scored Brandon Douglas.
Andrew Albers was a bright spot for the Red Wings as he gave up just three hits and two walks 6.1 shutout innings in a no decision. Albers threw 86 pitches before being replaced by reliever Tim Wood in the 7th inning.
Wood tossed 1.1 innings in relief but suffered the loss, giving up the lone run of the game.
Reliever Phil Coke picked up the win for Toledo and Bruce Rondon earned the save as he struck out the side in the 9th inning.
Clete Thomas was again held hitless as he went 0-for-3 and is now 0-for-7 in his last two games after he hit .486 during a 9-game hitting streak that ended Sunday in Columbus.
Rochester will send RHP P.J. Walters (3-2, 3.82) to the mound on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. looking to even the series.
WINGS THINGS: Brian Dinkelman's double was the Wings lone extra base hit of the night but it extended their extra-base hit streak to a season-high 15 games....Rochester has been shutout 3 times this season... The Wings are now 6-6 in one-run games
