TODAY'S GAME: The Wings travel west on the NYS Thruway to open the 2013 season with a 2:05 p.m. game against North Division rival Buffalo. In fact, the Red Wings-Bisons game will be the first minor league baseball game played of the entire 2013 season . The Wings, entering their 11th season as the top affiliate for the Minnesota Twins, are coming off their best season in four years after finishing 72-72 under first-year manager Gene Glynn - a 19-game improvement over 2011. The Bisons, beginning their first year as the Triple-A affiliate of the Blue Jays, finished in last place in the IL North with a 67-76 record in 2012 as a Mets affiliate. Buffalo is managed by Marty Brown, who is back for his second stint with the Herd, after guiding them to a 2004 Governors' Cup championship. After two games in Buffalo, the two teams will head to Rochester to open the 17th season at Frontier Field with a two-game set Saturday and Sunday.

-The Wings snapped an 11-game losing streak at Coca-Cola Field with an 11-9 win on 8/26/12 starting a 3-game win streak in Buffalo they will carry over into the 2013 season opener.

OPENING DAY: The Red Wings are 7-3 on Opening Day the last 10 seasons including a 7-4 win at Syracuse last year. The Wings won 6 straight openers from 2004-09 before losing two in a row in 2010-11. This will be the 6th year in a row the Wings have opened on the road and first time opening in Buffalo since 1998 (L, 0-4) -- the Bisons first year in the IL. The last and only time Rochester has opened a season at Frontier Field was in 2007 when they were snowed out vs. Ottawa, before winning 12-11 the following day. Since 1980, the Wings are 19-14 on Opening Day.

Drew Butera hit .375 (6-for-16) with 2 doubles, a home run, 6 RBI and 7 runs in 7 games... Chris Colabello went 6-for-18 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI in 10 games... Ray Olmedo hit .297 (11-for-37) 2 triples, a home run and 9 RBI in 18 games... Brandon Boggs hit 3 home runs and knocked in 9 runs... Pedro Hernandez tossed 11.0 shutout innings (6 G, SV, 10 h, bb, 6 k)... P.J. Walters went 3-0, 2.08 ERA (13 ip/3er) in 6 games (one start)... Luis Perdomo went 2-for-2 in save chances striking out 9 in 7.0 IP (6 G)...

BACK-TO-BACK: P.J. Walters will make his second consecutive Opening Day start for the Wings after starting at Syracuse last year to open the season (n/d; 4.0 ip, 0 r, 2 h). Only four other Red Wings pitchers since 1980 have made back-to-back Opening Day starts (Mike Boddicker 1981-83; Bill Swaggerty 1984-85; Josh Towers 2000-01 & Anthony Swarzak 2010-11). Boddicker is the only Wings pitcher to open three consecutive seasons for the Wings in that span.
