Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Rochester Red Wings announced today that former Red Wing Gene Green and former Red Wings manager Marv Foley will be inducted into the Red Wings Hall of Fame on Friday, July 8.

The Red Wings Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to recognize individuals who made unique contributions to the history of professional baseball in Rochester, both on and off the field. After the July 8th ceremony, the Red Wings Hall of Fame will include 82 members.

Outfielder/catcher Gene Green played three seasons (1956, 1957 & 1959) with the Red Wings. One of the best players to play for Rochester during the Cardinals era, Green helped lead the Red Wings to the Governors' Cup championship in 1956 batting .300 with 23 home runs and 96 RBI. Green, a two-time International League All-Star, finished his Red Wings career with 62 home runs and 254 RBI in 371 games.

Marv Foley was the Red Wings manager for five seasons (1995-1998 and 2000) compiling a 363-349 record. The 363 wins as Red Wings manager rank 2nd most behind only Mr. Baseball in Rochester Joe Altobelli's 502 wins. Foley guided the 1997 Red Wings to an 83-58 record and the International League Governors' Cup championship in Rochester's first season at Frontier Field. Foley, who guide the Red Wings to the IL playoffs in three of the five seasons he managed, was also named International League Manager of the Year in 1997. Marv made an impact off the field as well volunteering his time to the Challenger Baseball World Series all five seasons he managed the club. For his efforts Challenger Baseball World Series recognized him by creating the Marv Foley Award which is presented yearly to an individual that demonstrates outstanding commitment and support of the Challenger Baseball World Series.

Marv Foley will be on-hand to accept his Hall of Fame honor.
