July 20, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

The Boston Red Sox today placed right-hander Andrew Bailey on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 13) with a right shoulder strain. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, right-hander Jose De La Torre was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

In 30 appearances for Boston this season, Bailey, 29, has gone 3-1 with eight saves, and a 3.77 ERA (12 ER). He has struck out 39 batters in 28.2 innings for a 12.24 strikeouts per nine innings ratio. Over his four appearances this month, Bailey has thrown 5.1 scoreless innings and has struck out seven batters while issuing only one walk. Opponents have hit just .125 (2-for-16) against him in that span.

De La Torre, 27, returns for his fourth stint of the season with the Red Sox. In his four games for Boston in 2013, he has no record with a 7.71 ERA (6 ER/7.0 IP), six walks, and nine strikeouts. De La Torre has appeared in 24 games for Pawtucket where he has gone 3-1 with one save, a 1.74 ERA (8 ER/41.1 IP), 21 walks, and 49 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .146 batting average (21-for-144), the best mark among International League relievers.
