Everett Silvertips News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Dawson Weatherill got in the way of 26 shots and Kailer Yamamoto recorded a goal and an assist, enough to help the Spokane Chiefs hold off the Everett Silvertips, 2-1 before a crowd of 3,183 at Spokane Arena on Tuesday night.
The Silvertips loss ended a four game winning streak, though maintaining first place in the U.S. Division at 8-2-1-0 (17 points). Patrick Bajkov logged the only Silvertips goal while Carter Hart, making his first appearance against Spokane this season, turned away 21 shots.
Everett misfired on capitalizing on an Ondrej Najman kneeing penalty and Spokane delivered the game's first goal, 9:20 in on a Tyson Helgesen blast from the top of the left circle that skipped off Yamamoto and snuck past Hart's blocker.
Jaret Anderson-Dolan then boosted the lead to 2-0 with 3:42 left in the period, cashing off the rush when he swatter Yamamoto's post-to-post, saucer pass out of the air and into a half open net.
With the Silvertips outshot 9-5 in the first period, their game was elevated in the second period which brought Bajkov's snipe to slice the deficit to 2-1. Bajkov, Dominic Zwerger and Connor Dewar whipped passes across while on the rush, finding Bajkov open at the right circle for a successful re-direction with 3:59 to play.
Orrin Centazzo hit the post late in the second period and Bajkov, left wide open at the Spokane net early in the third period, posed the largest threats to tie the game but Weatherill stood his ground, inducing a glove save on Graham Millar's extra attacker snipe with one minute to play.
The Silvertips fell to 1-1-0-0 this season against Spokane.
Tomorrow, the Silvertips attempt to bounce back in their first meeting of the season with the host Kelowna Rockets, 7:05 p.m. (1380 AM / WHL Live / Tips App) at Prospera Place. Silvertips radio voice Mike Benton has the call, starting with the Everett Bone and Joint Pregame Show.
