Jumbo Shrimp fall to BayBears 10-4

Jacksonville remains in first place

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (27-25, 57-65) fell to the Mobile BayBears (27-26, 57-65) by a 10-4 score in the third game of the five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Friday night.

BayBears relief pitcher Justin Anderson (3-2) earned the victory with his scoreless inning and a third of work after Mobile starter Jake Jewell worked the first four and two-thirds innings. Jacksonville starter Trevor Richards (4-5) took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts in his two-third innings of work in the bottom of the first.

The BayBears struck quickly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning off Richards. Jose Rojas and Forrestt Allday started the scoring with RBI singles before a wild pitch brought home Rojas to make it 3-0. The BayBears added their final two runs of the inning on a two RBI single by Alberto Triunfel that put the lead at 5-0. The BayBears added a homer by Jose Rojas in the second inning to grow the lead to 6-0.

Jacksonville struck back with three runs in the top of the third. A wild pitch brought home David Vidal from third base before Braxton Lee hit an RBI single to make it a 6-2 game. Jacksonville's last run of the inning came on an RBI groundout by Austin Dean that cut the lead to 6-3. The Shrimp got a run closer in the top of the fourth, when after a single by Rodrigo Vigil, a throwing error by BayBears first baseman Zach Houchins on the play scored Vidal to cut Mobile's lead to 6-4.

The BayBears got a run back in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer by Taylor Ward that put the Mobile lead at 7-4.

The BayBears added their final runs in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs Triunfel delivered a two-run triple before an RBI single by Tim Arakawa grew the lead to 10-4, which would be the final score. Triunfel went 2-for-4 with four runs batted in.

Despite the loss, Jacksonville remains in first place in the second half South Division standings, now a half game ahead of both the BayBears and the Biloxi Shuckers with 18 games left in the season.

The Jumbo Shrimp and BayBears will continue their series with the fourth game of the five-game set on Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium at 8:05 p.m. ET. Left-handed pitcher Dillon Peters (4-2, 2.73 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Mobile right-handed pitcher Jaime Barria (1-5, 3.34).
