Recap: Cyclones Prevail in Second of Three in Alaska
March 18, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL) - Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Anchorage, AK- The Cincinnati Cyclones (34-26-4-0) earned a 2-1 win over the Alaska Aces on Friday night. Forward Shane Walsh and defenseman Martin Lefebvre netted the goals for Cincinnati, who are 11-3-0-0 in their last 14 games.
After a scoreless first period, Cincinnati wasted little time finding the back of the net in the second when forward Shawn O'Donnell sent a pass from below the goal line to Walsh who drifted into the high slot, and be snapped a shot in to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead, 1:58 into the frame.
The Cyclones extended that lead to 2-0 midway through the second while on a 5-on-3 power play, when defenseman Eric Knodel dished the puck to Lefebvre who hammered a one-timer past Alaska netminder Kevin Carr to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead.
The 'Clones took that 2-0 lead into the locker room after the second and in the second, the Aces pulled to within one, 2-1, on a goal from forward Ben Lake. For the second straight night, the Aces mounted a furious late-period rush that forced goaltender Michael Houser to make a number of big saves to preserve the 2-1 lead.
Despite the late push, the Cyclones were not deterred and prevailed by that 2-1 score. Cincinnati was outshot, 32-20 on the night, with Houser stopping 29 in the win. Cincinnati wraps up their three-game series with the Aces on Saturday night at 11:15pm ET.
