LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (13-15-0-1) started strong but fell behind in a 6-2 loss to the Waterloo Black Hawks (19-10-2-1) on Friday night at the Ice Box.
The Stars produced multiple high scoring chances during the first period, and for the fourth-straight game they capitalized first. At 8:19 of the first period, Stars forward Tristan Ashbrook ripped a shot from the right circle by the glove of the netminder to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, the Black Hawks answered with three goals to take the advantage. Black Hawks forward Evan Dougherty scored at 3:06 while on the penalty kill followed by a power play tally from defenseman Ben Finkelstein at 5:02 as well as a goal from forward Bobby Trivigno at 17:43 to take a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.
The Black Hawks gained one more from Dougherty at 15:07 of the third period to take a 4-1 lead before the Stars answered. Stars forward Gustaf Westlund took the puck himself and scored from the high slot at 16:09 to cut the lead in half, 4-2. However, Black Hawks forwards Solag Bakich and Joey Cassetti tallied at 17:04 and 18:13 to put the game out of reach at 6-2
Black Hawks goaltender Jared Moe (11-5-0) stopped 33 of 35 shots in the win, Stars netminder Tomá=A1 Vomá=C4=8Dka (8-13-0) turned away 18 of 24 shots in the loss.
