St. John's IceCaps News Release
TORONTO, ON - The St. John's IceCaps fell 5-2 to the Toronto Marlies on Tuesday afternoon at the Ricoh Coliseum.
IceCaps' Captain Max Friberg started off the scoring late in the first with an unassisted, breakaway tally. Charles Hudon tapped in another one just 51 seconds into the second off a play from Chris Terry and a shot from Nikita Scherbak. Terry's apple ties him with 2015-16 IceCap Bud Holloway for the franchise scoring record with 61 points.
The Marlies fought back with five unanswered tallies. Frederik Gauthier scored shorthanded in the second to cut the lead in half before Justin Holl potted the equalizer later in the middle frame. Brendan Leipsic added another one for the Marlies in the third before Kerby Rychel scored back-to-back markers (the second being an empty-netter) to help Toronto take home two points.
Garret Sparks stopped 20-of-22 shots for the Marlies, while IceCaps' netminder Yann Danis turned aside 29 shots in the loss.
