FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON - A dagger delivered by Jacksonville Armada FC forward Ciaran Kilduff in the form of a 68th minute header condemned FC Edmonton to their second-straight 1-0 loss at Clarke Stadium on Friday, October 6.

Kilduff headed home the winner in the second half while goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell registered the clean sheet in the victory for the visitors. A shining light for the Eddies was striker and 17-year-old David Doe, who became the latest FC Edmonton Academy graduate to earn his first professional cap after teammate Abraham Dukuly earned his first six days prior.

"I feel so bad for the players tonight," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said post-game. "It's heartbreaking. It was a good game and both teams went at it for the entire 90 minutes. We didn't get tight on the cross and that was the difference here. To fault the players here for their commitment and attitude, I can't do that. We did well in the first half. In the second half we played too easy and played in the oppositions hands."

The Eddies earned the first big chance of the match after a nice break down the right-wing from Shawn Nicklaw led the ball to winger Ben Fisk. The Vancouver, B.C. product cut to his right foot before firing a shot that went just wide of Patterson-Sewell's far corner.

The visitors showed why they can be a threat on set-pieces on 15 minutes. After an in-swinging corner kick, the ball bounced off a couple heads before landing on the foot of Drew Beckie. Beckie got his right foot on the ball from in close, but his effort went inches over Farago's crossbar.

With injuries to Daryl Fordyce and Tomi Ameobi, striker Jake Keegan got the start up top. After a cross from winger Sainey Nyassi, Keegan headed the ball towards goal but his effort struck the crossbar and bounced away from danger.

Despite an attacking first half from both teams, the score would remain scoreless heading into the half-time break

The visitors' first big chance of the match fell on the 54-minute mark when Albert Watson was penalized for a foul just outside the Eddies' box. Forward Tony Taylor stepped up to take the free-kick from a promising position, but he was unable to test Farago.

Ten minutes later, the visitors made no mistake of their next chance. After the Armada worked a cross in from the left-wing, the cross fell to the head of an unmarked Kilduff, making no mistake of his free header to beat Farago for the first goal of the match.

FC Edmonton academy graduate Doe became the latest local Edmontionian to receive his professional debut. Doe showed off his blistering pace before being brought down just outside the box. Second half substitute Nico Di Biase curled the free-kick that was goalbound, but Patterson-Sewell made the diving save late to keep the score line at 1-0 through the entirety of the match.

"We had to tweak things due to injuries to Ameobi and Fordyce," Miller added. "I thought everyone did well, including David Doe. He impacted the game in a positive way when he came on. The atmosphere tonight was great, these Friday and Saturday evening games have been a huge success. Now, at this point, it's about restoring pride and getting back into winning ways."
