Real Salt Lake News Release

REAL SALT LAKE RESTRUCTURES COACHING STAFF RSL Promotes Freddy Juarez from Real Monarchs Head Coach to RSL Assistant Coach; Club Parts Ways with Assistant Coach Richie WilliamsSANDY, Utah (Tuesday) - Real Salt Lake has restructured both the first-team and Real Monarchs coaching staffs, RSL Head Coach Jeff Cassar announced today. Under the revised structure, former Real Monarchs Head Coach Freddy Juarez has been promoted to the first team staff. In addition, 2016 RSL Assistant Coach Richie Williams has mutually agreed to part ways with the club.

"It is important that we continue to evolve across the competitive side of our club, with every detail aimed at capturing hardware for RSL and our incredible fans," said Cassar, who signed a contract extension in mid-November to continue with the club which he has served since May, 2007. "I want to thank Richie for his commitment to the club this season and also welcome Freddy to the first team staff after two productive seasons with the Monarchs."

Juarez ascends to the RSL technical staff after two seasons with Real Monarchs SLC. Under his guidance, the USL club has produced three players who have gone on to sign contracts with Real Salt Lake - Emery Welshman in 2015 and Ricardo Velazco and Chris Schuler in 2016. In two seasons at the helm, the Monarchs accumulated a 17-27-14 record, narrowly missing the postseason in 2016. Juarez matriculated to guide the Monarchs' first two seasons after four years at the club's Arizona-based Academy, coaching alongside Martin Vasquez and completing the vaunted French Football Federation coursework prior his Utah move.

"Obviously I'm elated to continue with this club in a new capacity, and I'm very thankful to Mr. Hansen, Jeff Cassar and Craig Waibel - among many others - for this opportunity," said Juarez, 38, the former El Paso Patriots player who now completes out the coaching staff under Cassar, which continues to include Tyrone Marshall and Daryl Shore. "The foundation laid with the Monarchs will continue to bear fruit for both the first-team and the USL level, with our ever-growing organization expanding quickly across Utah and Arizona, providing high-level competitive and recreational training and education for all age groups."

Williams joined Real Salt Lake's coaching staff prior to the 2016 season and helped RSL bounce back for a playoff return after missing the playoffs in 2015 for the first time since 2007.

"Thanks to RSL ownership, to Jeff and to Craig for the year here, and for the opportunity now afforded me to explore my options," said Williams. "The commitment to the future of the sport here in Utah exhibited by RSL at all levels and the ambition for growth, depth and breadth sets a standard for the future of MLS."

Cassar and General Manager Craig Waibel expect to have further announcements regarding the restructuring of the staff and the search for the next Head Coach for the Monarchs in coming weeks.
