Utah Royals FC News Release

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (4-1-1, 13 points 3 West) opened its new home at the world-class Zions Bank Stadium on Monday evening with a 0-0 draw against regional rival Las Vegas Lights FC. Head Coach Mark Briggs led his team in its Herriman debut in front of 4,065 fans.

An early red card against Las Vegas defender Marcelo Alatorre gave the Monarchs a free kick opportunity just outside the penalty area resulting in the best chance of the first stanza. After a dispute as to where the foul occurred, MF Maikel Chang's free kick effort deflected off the defensive wall and away from danger. From then the Monarchs would dominate the match in nearly all facets.

In the second half of play, the Monarchs held the vast majority of possession while earning 15 total shots while three landed on frame to force Lights FC goalkeeper Ricardo Ferrino into a save. The Utah club finished with nearly 71% of the total possession in the match but were held scoreless for the first time in 2018 as GK Connor Sparrow earning the shutout in goal.

UP NEXT: The Monarchs will remain at Zions Bank Stadium to continue its home stretch in Herriman on Friday, May 4 against Orange County SC. Kickoff in Herriman is set for 7:00 p.m. MT.

KEY SAVES AND DEFENSIVE STOPS:

LV: Ricardo Ferrino, 11th minute - A bad giveaway in the defensive third for Las Vegas gave the ball straight to Monarchs midfielder Sebastian Velasquez. Velasquez collected the ball and fired a low driven shot, bound for the bottom corner but Ferrino did well to stretch to parry away the shot.

- Four RSL members started for the Monarchs against Las Vegas as Luke Mulholland, Adam Henley, Connor Sparrow and Danilo Acosta all earned the start.

- The match was the first-ever meeting between the Monarchs and Las Vegas, initiating a regional rivalry with the league's newest side from Southern Nevada.
