Reading Fightin Phils Game Recap

May 28, 2017 - Eastern League (EL1) - Reading Fightin Phils News Release


Manchester, NH - New Hampshire Fisher Cats (19-29) catcher Michael De La Cruz hit a walk-off home run off Fightin Phils (23-22) reliever John Richy (1-2) in the bottom of the 10th to win 5-4. Reading has now lost nine straight games.

Andrew Pullin smacked his 11th home run of the season against Fisher Cats starter Sean Reid-Foley in the top of the 1st inning. He hit a two-run home run to score Scott Kingery and give the Fightins a 2-0 lead.

It wouldn't be until the bottom of the 5th inning that the Fisher Cats would get after Fightin Phils starter Shane Watson. The Fisher Cats tied the game at 2-2 as Richard Urena hit a RBI double and Harold Ramirez hit a RBI single. Watson left the game for Yacksel Rios who pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings and recorded two strikeouts.

Miguel Nunez gave up a run to Matt Dean in the bottom of the 8th as he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Fisher Cats a 3-2 lead. Reading would take a 4-3 lead in the top of the 9th with two outs against Fisher Cats relievers Tim Mayza and Justin Shafer. Andrew Pullin led off the inning with a double then Kyle Martin struck out. Mayza would leave for Shafer who gave up a two-out walk to Carlos Tocci. Angelo Mora hit a go-ahead two-run double off Shafer to give the Fightin Phils a 4-3 lead.

Jesen Therrien allowed the tying run in the bottom of the 9th as Ryan McBroom hit a two-out single to score Tim Lopes. The run ended Therrien's 18.1 scoreless inning streak. It was also the first run he allowed since April 17th against Akron. Alonso Gonzalez (1-3) earned the win for New Hampshire.
