Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Riverhounds Development Academy has had massive success so far at the U.S. Club Soccer Southeast Regionals in Greensboro, North Carolina. Running from June 18-21, the RDA has seen their Under-14 through 16 girls teams all advance out of the regional to compete in Nationals, while both the U17 Girls and U14 Boys have the opportunity to earn an at-large bid.
The US Club Soccer National Cup will run next month from July 22-25 in Aurora, Colorado.
Concluding games yesterday, the U16s won their group title by virtue of leading in points over four matches. The team ended the event with a spotless 4-0 record and a dominating accumulated scoreline of 21 goals for and one against. They will attempt to win back-to-back National Cup titles in Colorado next month.
The U14 Girls advanced to the finals earlier today on a goal differential tiebreaker. Notching a 2-1 record in the group stage, their bid came thanks to 4-1 victory on penalties in their final game against the Virginia Rush.
Rounding out the National Cup qualifiers for the girls were the U15s, who put in another clean-sheet performance against Carolina Rapids today, winning the championship match by a score of 2-0. The victory marked their fourth of the event, as they shutout their opponents for an impressive plus-13-goal differential.
For the U17 Girls, they fell 3-2 in a tightly contested match against the reigning National Champions, Carolina Rapids 98. The defeat was the second time the RDA girls have fallen to Carolina, losing in the semifinals of the National Cup in Indiana last year.
Lastly, on the boy's side, the U14 Boys saw a tie game slip away at the hands of a tough call against Fredericksburg Football Club, conceding a penalty in the dying moments of the second half of overtime.
