Raynor's walk-off triple leads Z's past Royals
June 15, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Zephyrs got their third walk-off win of the season when John Raynor laced an RBI triple over the head of Omaha right fielder Cory Aldridge to score Cameron Maybin in the bottom of the ninth, beating the Omaha Royals 3-2 Monday night.
On the night, Raynor was 2-for-4 with a single and his game-winning triple.
Gaby Sanchez was 2-for-4 with one run scored, and John Lindsey chipped in an RBI double to lead the way for the Zephyrs.
Rick VandenHurk pitched well again for the Z's, allowing one run on three hits in 6.2 innings. He left the game with two runners on base, but Levale Speigner came in and retired Cory Aldridge to end the inning.
Nate Field came in to pitch the ninth for the third straight night, but gave up a leadoff double to Irving Falu to give the Royals life. Scott Thorman then singled with two outs, scoring Falu to tie the game.
Maybin drew a one-out walk to set the scene for Raynor's dramatics.
The two teams will meet again Tuesday night with Hayden Penn (RHP) taking on Lenny DiNardo (LHP).
