Rawhide Steamroll Ports 12-1

VISALIA - The Rawhide steam rolled the Stockton Ports 12-1 on Tuesday night at Rawhide Ballpark to pick up their 5th straight win and their 8th straight home victory. Visalia jumped on Stockton early with a flurry of hits and never relenquished the lead.

Kyle Winkler (1-2) was very efficient in his fourth start of the season picking up his first victory and quality start of the season, going 6.0 innings, giving up just one earned run on six hits, strking out six and walking two.

The Rawhide did not waste much time getting on the board, as everyone in the lineup got a turn at the dish in the bottom of the first inning against Stockton starter Tanner Peters (1-2). Raywilly Gomez got it started with an RBI-double off the center field wall to plate Gerson Montilla. With thehit, Gomez extended his on-base streak to 18 games. He has reached base at least once in every game he's played this season.

After an RBI-single from Michael Perez, Tom Belza cleared the bases with his second homerun of the season to deep right field, making it 4-0. Two batterslater, Kerry Jenkins capped the scoring in the inning with adoubledown the left field line to score Matt Helm from first base, giving the Rawhide an early 5-0 lead.

The slugger Yazy Arbelo extended the Rawhide lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a solo shot the opposite way to left field. It was Arbelo's first homerun at Rawhide Ballpark in 2013.

Two batters later, Tom Belza reached on a single to right field and Kerry Jenkins laced a ball down the left field line once again for his second RBI-double of the evening to make it 7-0. Jenkins moved over to third on a wild pitch from Peters, and Raul Navarro brought him home on an infield single to the third baseman, making it 8-0. That was all she wrote for Tanner Peters on the night.

Stockton finally got on the board in the top of the 5th inning when Bobby Crocker lined a two-out homerun off the foul pole in left field to make it 8-1.

After a leadoff triple from Evan Marzilli in the bottom of the 6th inning, Montilla drove him in with an RBI-single to left field to keep the pressure on the Ports and make it 9-1. After a Tom Belza grounded out with the bases loaded, Matt Helm continued to pile it on with a 2-RBI double off the right field fence, extending the lead to 12-1.

Blake Cooper finished things off in the 9th inning to secure the Rawhide's 8th straight home victory. With the win, the Rawhide climb to 11-8 and are within one game of Stockton for 2nd place in the division. These two teams will square off again tomorrow at 1 pm.
