Rawhide Return Powerful Favor, Beat Blaze 9-3

June 12, 2013 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

A night after Bakersfield smashed four homers, the Visalia Rawhide clubbed four of their own, including a three-run blast in a pivotal 7th inning, and the Rawhide beat the Blaze on Tuesday night at Sam Lynn, 9-3.

Carlos Contreras (L, 3-6) got the start, and despite allowing just one important hit, seemed to struggle with his command. Contreras went to three-ball counts to nearly one-third of his opposition through four innings, working out of jams in the 1st and 2nd before falling behind in the 3rd.

Rawhide leadoff man Kevin Medrano began the frame with a walk, and two outs later, Ryan Court smacked his second homer of the series, a two-run shot, and the Rawhide went up, 2-0.

In the 5th, with Carlos Gonzalez on the hill, Visalia added another on a Ryan Court RBI single.

The Blaze broke through in the 6th inning off starter Robert Coe (W, 1-2). Yorman Rodriguez singled, Marquez Smith singled, and Steve Selsky was hit in the helmet with a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. Juan Duran followed with a sacrifice fly, but Rawhide reliever Patrick Schuster came on to bail the club out of a jam, and the Blaze settled for just one.

Visalia put a cap on this one in the 7th, however, with Gerson Montilla homering, and the next three Rawhide following with an error, a walk, and a three-run shot off newly inserted Pat Doyle to go up comfortably, 7-1.

Kyle McMyne allowed the fourth Visalia homer in the 8th, and Jamie Walczak tossed the 9th, with the Rawhide going up 9-1, and cruising to a blowout win in a season series that has taken a turn toward games not particularly close.

Jamie Walczak tossed a scoreless 9th, and for the Rawhide, Seth Simmons and Kaleb Fleck finished the ordeal for the Rawhide, with Fleck allowing two runs in the bottom of the 9th to make the score a tad more respectable, 9-3.

The loss drops the Blaze to 3-3 on the homestand, and the team will look for a series and homestand win in the finale with Visalia on Goodwill Wednesday. Bring a donation item to the park and get in for half off! Gates open at 6:45pm; first pitch is set for 7:45pm.
