Late Homer Sends Rawhide to Comeback Win

Rawhide Come Back for Fourth Time this Week

VISALIA, CA - For just the second time this season, the Rawhide bullpen had blown a save, and Visalia went into the last of the eighth inning chasing a 4-3 deficit. But the Rawhide bats had some late-inning magic left in them, and Grant Heyman hit a towering two-run homer to left center off of Visalia Oaks 1978 Championship sign with Matt McPhearson aboard to give the Rawhide a 5-4 lead. Mason McCullough pitched another perfect inning of relief and the Rawhide went home with their third consecutive victory.

The comeback win marked the third game in a row, and the fourth in their last five, where Visalia has fallen behind in the first three innings, but has staged a comeback to win.

Kirby Bellow (W, 3-0) lost the lead for Visalia in the eighth inning, giving up three consecutive hits in the eighth inning to allow Lancaster (12-17) to tie the game and take a 4-3 lead. Joel Payamps delivered his second straight quality start, allowing two runs over his six innings on six hits with two strikeouts. He was given a no-decision. Payamps gave up runs in the first and third inning. Wes Rogers walked and scored in the first and then tripled and scored in the third. Rogers finished with a double, a triple, a walk, and two runs scored.

Lancaster starter Jesus Tinoco went 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on ten hits, but was effective enough to work out of jams. His only true mistake came to Marty Herum in the third inning. On a two-and-oh count with Jason Morozowski on base, Herum blasted a line drive home run off of the protective netting in right field to, at the time, tie the game 2-2.

Morozowski and Herum both registered multi-hit games. They both have now had multi-hit games in four consecutive games. Sergio Alcantara finished with three singles in four at bats with a walk. His third three-hit game of the season.

The Rawhide will continue four game series with Lancaster tomorrow. First pitch will be at 7 PM and will match up Visalia's RHP Jose Almonte and Lancaster's RHP Craig Schlitter. It will be an All-American Saturday at the ballpark. Tickets are still available at rawhidebaseball.com.
