Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA, CA - The Rawhide (7-2, 7-2) offense fell silent on Saturday night at Recreation Ballpark, managing just four hits in a 5-0 loss to the Bakersfield Blaze (3-6, 3-6).

Bakersfield jumped out to a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the top of the third after LF Arby Fields doubled. 3B Brock Hebert drove him in for the 1-0 lead against LHP Josh Taylor (0-1, 5.11), making his third start of the season.

Another run came across for Bakersfield in the fifth when DH Jay Baum doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from RF Austin Cousino for a 2-0 advantage.

The Blaze touched the plate two more times in the sixth against Taylor on two infield singles, a walk, an error, an RBI groundout and a wild pitch to increase their lead to 4-0.

Taylor lasted six innings for Visalia, giving up eight hits and four runs (all earned), he walked two and struck out five in the loss.

RHP Blake Perry entered and relinquished a single to Fields. Arby then stole second and scored on SS Drew Jackson's RBI single for a 5-0 lead.

For Visalia, against LHP Eddie Campbell (1-0, 3.12), plenty of opportunities to score presented themselves in the first four innings. Bakersfield committed two errors in the first frame alone but Visalia stranded runners on second and third. In the second the Rawhide left men on first and second and in the third, they again left a man on third. The Blaze made three errors in the first four innings and Visalia stranded six runners. Through the final four frames the Rawhide mustered no hits and stranded one base runner as the Blaze bullpen of LHP Ryan Horstman, LHP Kyle Hunter and RHP Cody Kerski threw four shutout innings.

The series finale is tomorrow afternoon, with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch from Recreation Ballpark. RHP Lucas Irvine (0-0, 5.40) pitches for Visalia against RHP Andrew Moore (0-1, 0.00) of Bakersfield.

Tomorrow is the first Family Fun Sunday presented by Carl's Jr. of the season. Members of the Carl's Jr. Kids Club will get access to pre-game player autographs and they can run the bases post-game. Tomorrow is also Exeter Relay for Life Day. The Rawhide and Exeter are partnering up to help strike out cancer! Rawhide players will wear Exeter Relay for Life Jerseys tomorrow and they will be auctioned off during the game. For tickets or more information call 55-732-4433.
