Rawhide Make It Six Straight with 3-1 Win over San Jose

Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA, CA- Good pitching, good defense and timely offense pushed Visalia (16-6, 16-6) to a 3-1 win on Saturday night over San Jose (10-10, 10-10) at Recreation Ballpark, giving them their sixth straight victory.

Once again the Rawhide were trailing, though this time by just a tally, after SS C.J Hinojosa homered in the fourth inning against RHP Lucas Irvine (1-0, 3.86) to push the Giants out to a 1-0 lead.

LHP D.J. Snelton (1-2, 3.43) cruised through his first four innings of work, allowing just two singles and a walk. It was in the fifth that 1B Cody Regis reached on an infield single where the trouble began. 3B Dawel Lugo singled behind him and C Tyler Baker laid down a sacrifice bunt that 3B Jose Vizcaino Jr. threw wide of the bag for a bases loading error. RF Victor Reyes drove in a run with a single through the left side and two batters later CF Colin Bray followed suit for a 2-1 Rawhide lead.

Irvine made it into the sixth inning but after giving up a two-out double to Vizcaino Jr. he was lifted for RHP Bud Jeter, who promptly struck out 1B Jonah Arenado to end the threat. The final line for Irvine was 5.2 innings, one run (earned) on seven hits, he walked two and he struck out six while earning the first win by a Rawhide starter this season.

Snelten lasted six innings and turned in a quality start but it wasn't quite enough for San Jose. He was harnessed with two runs (earned) on seven hits, a walk and he did strikeout five in the loss.

The bullpen combination of Jeter, LHP Austin Wright and RHP Jimmie Sherfy (SV 7) who closed out the win held San Jose off the scoreboard for the final 3.1 innings as Sherfy earned save number seven, which leads the California League.

Against RHP Reyes Moronta in the eighth DH Rudy Flores extended his hitting streak with another home run, a solo shot that gave Visalia some insurance before Sherfy closed it out. Flores has now homered in three consecutive ballgames for Visalia.

The series concludes tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. from Recreation Ballpark and on the mound for Visalia, who will go for their second consecutive series sweep, will be RHP Brad Keller (0-1, 3.60) against RHP Jordan Johnson (2-1, 2.00) for the Giants.
