Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored five times in the bottom of the first inning and went on to defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits 6-2 Monday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Quad Cities (2-10) scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning. Antonio Nunez reached on an infield single and stole second. He was still at second with two outs. Then, he stole third and scored on a missed catch to put the River Bandits up 1-0.

Wisconsin (5-7) responded in a big way in the bottom of the first. Carlos Belonis singled to start the frame. Max McDowell singled to left on a hit-and-run with one out to send Belonis to third. A wild pitch with Isan Diaz at the plate let Belonis score the tying run and sent McDowell to second. Another wild pitch in the same at bat sent McDowell to third base. Then, Diaz walked to give Wisconsin runners at the corners. Elvis Rubio put the Rattlers ahead with a single to knock in McDowell.

Jake Gatewood followed with a sharp single to right and Diaz was going to hold at third, but a bobble in right let Diaz score while Rubio and Gatewood would eventually wind up on third and second respectively. Blake Allemand, in his first game with the 2016 Timber Rattlers, lined the first pitch he saw into center to send in both runners on base for a 5-1 lead.

Diplan tossed four innings and retired the final twelve batters he faced. He struck out six and left the game with the Rattlers still comfortably in front.

Freddy Peralta took over in the top of the fifth inning. He gave up an unearned run in the top of the sixth. Daz Cameron tripled with two outs and scored on an error to pull the River Bandits to within 5-2.

Peralta ran into a two out jam in the top of the eighth and needed relief help. Cameron drew a two-out walk, stole second, and took third on a wild pitch before Peralta issued a walk to Kyle Tucker. Nathan Greip came out of the bullpen to face the tying run and got out of the inning without making a pitch. Greip picked Tucker off first to end the threat.

Monte Harrison, who had two hits in the game, started the Wisconsin eighth inning with a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by McDowell. Diaz, who also had two hits on Monday, knocked in Harrison with a single to center.

Greip pitched around a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth to close out the River Bandits for his first save of the season.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. David Burkhalter (0-0, 0.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Jose Hernandez (0-1, 5.14) is set to start for the River Bandits. Game time is 12:05pm.
