Rattlers End Bees Winning Streak

July 8, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored six unanswered runs and retired the last 20 Burlington Bees in order to end the Bees' three-game winning streak on Monday evening at Community Field.

A mix of solid pitching and clutch hitting has aided the Bees (31-52, 5-13) to four wins in their last five games prior to Monday night, but both disappeared after the third inning, allowing the Timber Rattlers (36-47, 7-11) to come away with a win.

Burlington struck for three runs in the first against Jorge Lopez, with Kevin Moesquit, Anthony Bemboom and Andrew Ray all reaching on hits to start the inning. Ray doubled home Moesquit, while Bemboom came around on a ground out by Wade Hinkle. Chance Ross smacked a two-run single to score Ray and put the Bees ahead by three.

In the second, Garrett Cannizaro doubled and scored on a two-out single by Moesquit. But, the Bees lead was cut in half in the third when Ryan Crowley served up a two-out two run home run to Tyrone Taylor. Both runs were unearned because Michael Reed reached on an error by Cannizaro with two outs to keep the inning going.

The Bees got those two runs right back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by Ross. Ross finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

The long ball plagued Crowley in the middle innings, as Parker Berberet blasted a two-run shot in the fourth and Victor Roache launched a home run in the fifth.

Despite the poor outing, Crowley left in line for the win with his team up 6-5 after five innings. Alex Blackford (0-1) came on to make his Bees debut, and he surrendered two unearned runs after Wendell Soto's fielding error allowed two runs to score with two outs in the inning.

The offense went completely silent for Burlington after the third inning, as 20 straight Bees were retired by Lopez and Taylor Mangum (2-4). Mangum twirled five perfect innings, striking out five, to earn the victory.

Burlington will travel on Tuesday to Great Lakes to begin a three-game series with the Loons that will begin on Wednesday night at 7:05 ET. Nic DellaTorre will take on Julio Urias at Dow Diamond.
