Rangers Top Firebirds on OA & Selfie Jersey Night

Flint, Mich. - Matyas Kantner recorded a two-point night and rookie defenseman Samuel Duchesne scored his first career OHL goal in a 7-2 loss to the Kitchener Rangers on overager and selfie jersey night (http://flintfirebirds.com/article/kitchener03122016) at the Dort Federal Event Center Saturday night.
Kitchener's Brandon Robinson scored his 16^th of the season when he scored 1:32 into the game to give Kitchener a 1-0 lead. The Firebirds quickly rebounded 46 seconds later when Vili Saarijî=A4rvi ripped the puck on net from the right wing point before Kantner deflected the puck between Luke Opilka's legs for the tying goal and Kantner's second of the season.
2:05 later, Kitchener's Darby Llewellyn scored his 20^th of the season on a backhander from the right circle farside over Keyser's right shoulder for the Rangers' go-ahead goal.
Jeremy Bracco scored the game-winning goal for Kitchener with 4:11 remaining in the first period. While on a two-on-one, Bracco's pass attempt deflected off Mathieu Henderson's stick and caromed into Flint's goal for the 3-1 lead.
Ryan MacInnis earned his team leading 38^th of the season 3:51 into the middle period increasing the Rangers' lead to three goals before Connor Bunnaman made it 5-1 with 10:05 left in the second. David Miller then converted on a bouncing puck in the slot 37 seconds later for the Rangers' sixth goal of the game. Brent Moran then relieved Kyle Keyser in net. The Rangers would score one more goal in the second period when Miles Liberati buried from the point, glove side past Moran, earning the Rangers a 7-1 lead.
Flint's Samuel Duchesne scored on a blast from the point 3:20 into the game off the left post and into the net for his first career tally in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Firebirds outshot the Rangers 31-30 and earned 34 face off wins compared to Kitchener's 32. Flint did not convert on seven power play opportunities and the rangers scored once on four tries.
The 7-2 loss to Kitchener will end the Firebirds chance of earning a playoff bid in their inaugural season in the Ontario Hockey League. The Firebirds will play their last game of the 2015-16 campaign on home ice this Saturday, Mar. 19 against the Guelph Storm.
