Rangers Suffer First Loss at the Aud

Kevin Raine's first goal of the season led the London Knights to a 4-3 victory over the Kitchener Rangers Sunday night. Curtis Meighan and Josh Sterk each recorded their first of the year in the loss, while Tobias Rieder recorded his eighth for the Rangers.

Kitchener opened the scoring near the halfway mark of the first period, when rookie Justin Bailey moved the puck from the wing to a streaking Curtis Meighan. The sophomore pivot beat Knights starter Kevin Bailie to tally his first of the 2012-13 season.

London leveled the score a one goal apiece in the final minute of the frame. Team scoring leader Seth Griffith collected Max Domi's pass in front of the Rangers net and chipped the puck past John Gibson with 41 seconds remaining in the period. His 17th of the year was also assisted by rearguard Olli Maatta.

The Knights out-shot the Rangers 11-7 in the opening period of play.

Domi and the Knights capitalized on a power play opportunity late in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. With time about to expire on the man-advantage, Maatta's pass found the sophomore forward parked beside the Rangers net and Domi lifted a shot high over the glove hand of Gibson to record his 13th goal of the season. Griffith also picked up his second point of the contest with an assist on the play.

London continued to lead shots on goal 13-11 in the middle frame.

Josh Sterk's first goal of the season pulled the Rangers even just over 2 minutes into the final period. Bailey set up the tally, connecting with the second-year centre on a pass from the corner before Sterk fired a quick backhand behind Bailie. Fellow draft-eligible forward Brent Pedersen was credited with the second assist.

The Knights quickly jumped back in front, taking advantage of a bad bounce in the Rangers zone just 66 seconds later. Waterloo native Kyle Platzer jumped on the puck as Gibson moved it from behind the net and quickly buried it in the open cage. The unassisted goal was his second of the season.

London added another goal at the 6:47 mark, extending their lead to 4-2. Veteran rearguard Kevin Raine's long low shot found the back of the net, giving him his first goal of the season and second of his career. Chris Tierney and Tyler Ferry assisted on the play.

Import winger Tobias Rieder's eighth goal of the season pulled the Rangers within one goal with five minutes left on the clock. Bailie made the initial save on Ryan Murphy, but the German forward pounced on the rebound and shoveled it in. The second helper was credited to Radek Faksa.

The Rangers held a 16-13 advantage in shots in the third period, but the Knights did finish the game up 37-34 on the shot clock. John Gibson made 33 saves for Kitchener in the loss.
