Rangers Fall 3-1 to Knights

November 27, 2012 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Kitchener Rangers News Release

A three-point night from Chris Tierney led the London Knights to a 3-1 win over the Kitchener Rangers on Tuesday night. Domenic Alberga scored the lone goal for the Rangers, with assists from Nick Czinder and Brent Pedersen.

The Knights and Rangers were trapped in a scoreless deadlock until the final second of the opening period, when Russian import Nikita Zadorov snuck a shot past Kitchener goaltender John Gibson, giving his team a 1-0 lead. The rookie defenceman's second of the season was assisted by Chris Tierney.

The Ranger finished the period with a 15-13 advantage in shots on goal.

Domenic Alberga's second of the year pulled Kitchener even as the contest neared its halfway point. Nick Czinder's wraparound attempt was stopped by Kevin Bailie, but Alberga was able to corral the puck and lift the rebound up and over the London netminder. The assist was the first point of Czinder's overage season and first as a Ranger. Draft-eligible winger Brent Pedersen was also credited with a helper on the goal at 8:50.

The Knights took a 2-1 lead with less than a minute and a half remaining in the period. Zadorov carried the puck down the wing before centering it for Tierney. The third-year centre redirected it, slipping a shot under Gibson for his sixth of the season.

The Rangers continued to lead shots on goal in the middle frame by a 17-12 margin.

Tierney added his second of the night with ten minutes left in the third, deflecting a shot past Gibson and lifting the Knights to a 3-1 lead. His seventh of the year was assisted by Kevin Raine and Brett Welychka.

The Rangers out-shot London 8-7 in the final period and finished the game with a 40-32 overall advantage, but Bailie made 39 saves to secure a 3-1 victory for London. With the win, the Knights take a 2-1 lead in the season series. The Rangers record now stands at 16-8-1-1.
