Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- Rancho rebounded from Friday's contest, as they dropped the High Desert Mavericks in front of more than 4,000 fans at LoanMart Field, winning by a score of 7-3.

Joey Curletta smacked a two-run homer and had three of Rancho's 13 hits, as the Quakes won for the second time in three second-half tries.

Quakes' starter Grant Holmes got some early run support, as Rancho sent eight men to the plate in a three-run first. Edwin Rios, who finished the game with two hits and two RBIs, brought in Tim Locastro with a two-out double, making it 1-0. After a walk to Michael Ahmed, Joey Curletta reached on an error, bringing home Rios to make it a 2-0 game. Matt Beaty followed with his first of three hits, an RBI single, scoring Ahmed to make it 3-0.

Holmes gave up a two-run blast to Josh Morgan in the second, as the Mavs closed to within one at 3-2.

Rancho answered back in the bottom half of the inning though, as Rios struck again, this time for a two-out single, plating Locastro, making it 4-2 against Mavs' starter Collin Wiles (2-4).

Holmes (6-3) surrendered his final run in the fifth, as he issued a two-out walk to Travis Demeritte, followed by a triple to Scott Heineman, as the Mavs made it a 4-3 contest.

The Quakes would again answer, this time scoring a single run in the bottom of the fifth. Curletta led off with a double, then scored on another Beaty single, pushing Rancho's lead to 5-3.

Curletta put the finishing touches on his three-hit night in the seventh, as he blasted his sixth home run of the year, a two-run shot to make it 7-3.

The Rancho bullpen was incredible again on Saturday night, as Chris Anderson, David Reid-Foley and Jeff Malm combined for four innings of one-hit scoreless relief.

Rancho was forced to play Saturday's game short-handed, as five players from both clubs were suspended due to Friday's benches-clearing incident.

The lack of bodies forced Rancho to play reliever Bubby Rossman in right field, as he made his first professional start in the field. Rossman struck out in his first three at-bats, but legged out a bunt-single in his final at-bat, finishing 1-for-4 on the night with a clean slate defensively in right field.

The Quakes (2-1, 44-29) will look for three of four on Sunday, as they send All-Star Josh Sborz (7-3) to the mound against Mavs' right-hander David Ledbetter (2-6) at 2:05pm.

Sunday is another Kids-Eat-Free Sunrun Sunday, as kids 12 and under will receive a free Tremor Meal (hot dog, Pepsi product and bag of chips) during Sunday's game. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
