Rampage tenderize Chops 5-1 Saturday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The San Antonio Rampage beat the Iowa Chops 5-1 at the AT&T Center on Saturday night. The Rampage got goals from five different players, registering a season high for goals in a game, as they skated to the victory in front of 4,735. The teams do it again on Sunday night at 5 p.m. at the AT&T Center.

The Rampage scored the only goal of the first period as forward Brett MacLean scooped in a rebound with a backhander at 11:41. The goal was the third of the season for MacLean and extended his point streak to four games. The Rampage out shot the Chops 12-5 in the first.

San Antonio exploded in the second period. Defenseman Matt Jones got to a loose puck just 23 seconds into the frame and potted his second of the season to make it 2-0. At 2:21 forward Jeff Hoggan tipped in a shot from the point by defenseman David Schlemko for a 3-0 lead. It was the first marker of the year for Hoggan.

San Antonio continued to Rampage, this time shorthanded as forward David Spina cut into the Chops zone then dipped to the slot and fired a shot back against the grain for his first of the year at 3:48.

The Rampage didn't slow down as forward Chad Kolarik picked up his second goal of the season, this one coming on a wrister, during a power play at 12:51 making it 5-0. San Antonio out shot Iowa 19-5 in the period.

In the third period the Chops got on the scoreboard as forward T.J. Trevelyan scored on a power play with a wrap around at 13:50 to complete the scoring. FINAL SCORE San Antonio 5, Iowa 1.

Montoya allowed just one goal on 18 shots in 59:57 and got the win to improve to 1-3-0. Jean-Philippe Levasseur allowed five goals on 36 shots in 60 minutes and fell to 1-1-0.

The Rampage went 2-7 on the power play while the Chops were 1-5. San Antonio out shot Iowa 36-18.

San Antonio snapped a three game losing streak and improved to 2-4-0-0. The Chops two game winning streak came to an end as they dropped to 4-3-0-0.

The Rampage battle Iowa again on Sunday at the AT&T Center at 5 p.m. Fans can take advantage of an Express-News Family Value Sunday Night and get a game ticket, hot dog and a bag of chips for just $12. You can also take advantage of the pre-game skate from 3-4 p.m. There is no charge if you have your own skates or $5 to rent skates.
