Rampage Add Summers And Szwarz To Roster

SAN ANTONIO (March 31, 2010) - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney today announced that the Coyotes have signed defenseman Chris Summers to an entry level contract. He will report to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

In addition, San Antonio Rampage General Manager Brad Treliving today announced that the AHL club has signed right wing Jordan Szwarz to an Amateur Try-Out (ATO) contract.

Summers, 22, recently completed his senior season at the University of Michigan, recording 4-12-16 and 28 penalty minutes (PIM) in 40 games while serving as team captain of the Wolverines. Summers played in 163 career games at Michigan over four seasons, finishing with 16-44-60 with 191 PIM and a +66 rating.

In 2008-09, Summers served as a co-captain for Michigan and registered career-highs in assists (13) and points (17) while being named a finalist for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Defensive Defenseman of the Year award and earning All-CCHA honorable mention status.

As a sophomore in 2007-08, the 6-foot-3, 202-pound Summers recorded 2-11-13 and a career-best +27 rating while helping Michigan to an appearance in the Frozen Four. He also represented Team USA at the 2008 World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic, helping lead the team to a fourth place finish while serving as an alternate captain. In 2006-07, Summers recorded 6-8-14 in 41 games as a freshman for Michigan, earning honorable mention on the CCHA All-Rookie Team. He also won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2006 Under-18 World Championship in Sweden.

A native of Milan, Michigan, Summers was originally selected by the Coyotes in the first round (29th overall) of the 2006 Entry Draft.

Szwarz, 18, recently completed his third season with the Saginaw Spirit (OHL) recording 26-28-54, 82 PIM and a +12 rating in 65 regular season games while serving as assistant captain on the team. The 5-foot-11, 189-pound forward posted 55 goals and 83 assists in 197 career OHL games with Saginaw over three seasons.

The Burlington, Ontario native has appeared in 18 playoff games with the Spirit over three seasons collecting two goals and seven assists. Most recently he tallied one goal and two assists in six playoff games against Kitchener earlier this month.

Szwarz was originally selected by the Coyotes in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
