Biloxi Shuckers News Release

BILOXI, MS. - The Biloxi Shuckers returned to MGM Park on Friday and got a stellar start from Wei-Chung Wang and two-run homer from Nick Ramirez in a 2-1 win over the Mobile BayBears. The one-run victory was Biloxi's 21st of the season (21-13) and gives the home team a 2-1 series edge.

Mobile slugged home the first run of the game on Todd Glaesmann's fifth home run of the season over the wall in left-center. The solo blast was the third homer allowed by Wang (W, 6-5) at MGM Park, and seventh of the season.

Nick Ramirez (1x2, HR, 2 RBI, BB) gave the Shuckers the lead in the bottom half of the frame with his 11th long ball of the year, a two-run shot against Matt Koch to give the home team a one-run advantage. The laser onto the berm was the first blast for Ramirez since July 9 against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Wang settled down after the homer in the second, retiring 12 of the final 13 batters to finish with one run allowed over six innings during his seventh quality start of the season. The southpaw allowed only three hits and did not issue a walk while striking out four. Over six July starts, the 24-year-old from Taiwan is 3-2 with a 2.43 ERA.

Brooks Hall (H, 3) worked two perfect frames and threw just 13 pitches, all of them being strikes. Stephen Kohlscheen earned his 14th save in 15 chances by retiring Mobile in the ninth, allowing one hit but striking out two. Kohlscheen has 50 strikeouts on the season and is a perfect 8-for-8 in save chances in the second half.

Javier Betancourt's 10-game hitting streak came to an end with an 0-for-3 night at the plate. The Shuckers were out-hit 4-3 on Thursday, but did not allow Mobile to get one runner into scoring position, excluding the homer.

The Shuckers will look to take the series on Friday night in game four of the five-game series at MGM Park. RHP Brandon Woodruff (5-6, 3.65) makes the start for Biloxi, coming off of back-to-back Southern League Pitcher of the Week awards, and will be opposed by Mobile LHP Josh Taylor (3-0, 1.90). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with coverage starting at 6:50 p.m. on the Biloxi Shuckers' Radio Network's flagship station WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM, Pascagoula's WPMO 1580 AM and the TuneIn Radio app.

The world-renown ZOOperstars! will make their way to MGM Park on Friday, providing entertainment for fans throughout the night. Saturday night will be another Fireworks Extravaganza, as Biloxi's night sky will light up for the 10th time this season.
