Ramirez Pitches Kings to Fourth-Straight Win

Clinton LumberKings News Release

Burlington, IA - With the help of right-hander Erasmo Ramirez's best outing to date, the Clinton LumberKings achieved something they hadn't done all season Tuesday night - a four-game winning streak. Ramirez yielded a run on seven hits over a season-high 7.0 innings as the LumberKings claimed a 4-1 victory over the Burlington Bees at Community Field.

Ramirez (W, 2-2) scattered three hits over his first four innings before running into trouble in the fifth. Rene Oriental and Fernando Cruz recorded back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Ryan Wood then beat out a fielder's choice to plate Oriental, cutting the LumberKings' lead to 3-1. Ramirez would get out of the jam, however, getting Hilton Richardson to line to left and Gerard Hall to ground back to the mound.

The LumberKings' offense provided Ramirez with an early 3-0 lead. James Jones doubled inside the third-base bag and scored as Dennis Raben ripped a double inside the first-base bag for a 1-0 lead. Raben would score on an infield single by Welington Dotel as the Kings took a 2-0 advantage.

Clinton would score once more against Bees' right-hander Tyler Sample as Gabriel Noriega singled with one gone in the second inning and eventually scored on a fielder's choice by Vinnie Catricala. Sample (L, 1-2) allowed only three runs over 6.0 innings, but that would prove to be enough.

Left-hander Brian Moran (H, 2) tossed a scoreless eighth inning in relief of Ramirez and right-hander Taylor Stanton (S, 1) came on for a scoreless ninth.

Jones (2-for-4, double, two runs) and Dotel (2-for-4, RBI) each had multi-hit games for the LumberKings, who improve to a game over .500 for the first time since a 5-4 record on April 16. Clinton has won seven of their last eight games.

Cruz finished 2-for-3 for the Bees, who have lost two straight.

The LumberKings (20-19) and Bees (13-25) continue the series tomorrow night at Community Field, first pitch slated for 6:30 PM. Left-hander Jimmy Gillheeney (2-3, 2.72) will make his team-leading ninth start of the year. Listen to all the action on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
