Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - After posting back-to-back shutout wins in their last two games, the Tacoma Rainiers had the tables turned in a 4-0 loss to the Las Vegas 51s at Cheney Stadium on Sunday.
The Rainiers were able to hold off Las Vegas long enough to up their streak of not allowing a run to 23 innings, besting the 22 Tacoma recorded against the Iowa Cubs, July 26-28, 2005.
Outfielder Jeremy Reed was the one responsible for ending Tacoma's scoreless stretch, collecting Las Vegas' first run of the series with a solo home run in the top of the third. Reed, who played parts of three seasons with the Rainiers from 2004 to 2008, struck again in the top of the fifth, this time with a two-run homer that drove in Jarrett Hoffpauir and put the 51s on top 3-0.
The afternoon's fourth and final run came in the seventh, when designated hitter Brian Dopirak drove in Brett Wallace from second with a double to left field.
Las Vegas starter Robert Ray held the Rainiers to just four hits, tying the team's lowest mark this year, en route to tossing the Pacific Coast League's first shutout of the season. The right-hander walked two and struck out four.
Tacoma starter David Pauley dropped to 0-3 after allowing three runs to score on eight hits in a six-inning effort, while fanning three and walking one.
The Rainiers host Las Vegas one more time in their series finale with the 51s at Cheney Stadium tomorrow morning. Taking the mound for Tacoma will be left-hander Garrett Olson against Las Vegas lefty Brad Mills, with first pitch set for 11:30a.m.
