Tacoma Rainiers News Release

RENO, Nev. - The Tacoma Rainiers (47-37) collected a 13-3 victory over the Reno Aces (44-41) on Tuesday night at Greater Nevada Field.

Right fielder Stefen Romero (3x5), left fielder Norichika Aoki (3x4), center fielder Guillermo Heredia (2x2), designated hitter Dario Pizzano (2x5) and first baseman D.J. Peterson (1x5) powered the Rainiers offense, while combining for 10 runs and 10 RBI.

Tacoma starting pitcher Jordan Pries (1-1) worked 6.0 scoreless innings, surrendering only four hits to earn his first win of the season - he issued two walks and struck out eight.

The Rainiers struck first with three runs in the top of the first inning. Aoki and Heredia both singled to start the game, followed by a double to right field from Romero scoring Aoki. Three batters later, Luis Sardinas lined a two-out, two-run single to center field plating Heredia and Romero, giving Tacoma the early 3-0 advantage.

Aoki and Heredia drew consecutive two-out walks in the top of the second inning, followed by a Romero three-run home run over the right field wall, pushing Tacoma's lead to 6-0.

The Rainiers notched another run in the top of the fourth inning when Tyler Smith reached base on a fielding error by third baseman Carlos Rivero, advanced to second base on a single from Aoki, and came around to score on an RBI single from Heredia, extending the Rainiers lead to 7-0.

Three-consecutive doubles to lead off the top of the sixth inning from Zach Shank, Dario Pizzano, and Smith, coupled with a groundout fielder's choice RBI from Peterson to score Smith, gave Tacoma a 10-0 lead.

Reno answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly ball from Mark Thomas to score Ed Lucas, followed by RBI singles from Mitch Haniger and Zach Borenstein, cutting the Rainiers lead to seven runs at 10-3.

Peterson belted a one-out, three-run home run over the right-center field fence in the top of the eighth inning, giving Tacoma the 13-3 advantage. The home run marks Peterson's third home run in his last three games.

Kevin Munson and Guido Knudson worked the final 3.0 innings for Tacoma, holding Reno to three runs on two hits, while walking two and striking out two.

Tacoma right-hander Cody Martin (7-5, 3.93) and Reno lefty Anthony Banda (0-2, 9.00) will square off as the Rainiers and Aces conclude their series tomorrow, Wednesday, July 6. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT.
