Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - Four home runs and a stellar start from Jeremy Bonderman steered the Rainiers to an 8-0 win over the Tucson Padres on Thursday, securing Tacoma's second consecutive series sweep and stretching the team's season-high winning streak to nine games.

Bonderman tossed a season-high 8.0 scoreless innings and limited the Padres to just two hits en route to improving his record to 2-2 this season. The right-hander struck out seven batters and issued just one walk in the sixth start of his 2013 campaign.

All eight of Tacoma's runs on Thursday were accounted for via four homers. Liddi led the launch party with a solo home run - his team-leading sixth this season - that opened the bottom of the fourth inning. Four at-bats later, Carlos Triunfel belted a three-run blast that gave the Rainiers a 4-0 advantage.

First baseman Rich Poythress hit one-run homer in the sixth inning, and outfielder Eric Thames went deep with a three-run blast in the seventh.

The Rainiers have now won each of their last nine games - the team's longest winning streak since stringing together nine consecutive wins, June 28-8, 2010. Tacoma's 18-10 record is currently the best in the Pacific Coast League.

The win also marked the first under new manager John Stearns, who took over as the Rainiers skipper after Daren Brown was added to the Seattle Mariners Major League coaching staff earlier on Thursday.

The Rainiers open the second leg of the homestand tomorrow, May 3rd, when the team welcomes the Reno Aces for a four-game series. Left-hander James Paxton (1-2, 6.00) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against right-hander Chase Anderson (1-3, 6.26) for the Aces.
